Bogs and peatlands in northern Britain store over 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon but severe erosion and climate change are in danger of releasing this stored carbon into the atmosphere and contributing to global warming, according to research presented at the annual conference of the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers Friday.
