Developing Regional Climate Models for Africa

IBM and the Climate Systems Analysis Group at the University of Cape Town are launching a global computing effort to improve regional climate models in order to make better projections about what effects a changing climate will have in Africa.

IBM today announced their intention to consolidate about 3,900 computer servers onto about 30 System z mainframes, which they anticipate will consume 80% less energy than the current set-up.
