You would really love to give up the car for the push-bike, but know that shopping would be real drag without it.

Now shoppers in Trumpington, Cambridge, have the option to cycle thanks to a supermarket launching a customer trailer scheme. The scheme is an initiative between the council and Waitrose in Trumpington that hopes to encourage greener shopping.

Bicycle trailers are now available free-of-charge for Waitrose customers enabling them to place their shopping straight into the trailer as they shop. It then simply hitches onto their bikes once they have paid.

The trailer will then have to be returned to the store within three days.

The scheme is designed to give customers the option of shopping using their bicycle without the expense of buying their own trailer. Customers can find out details about the scheme at the Trumpington store helpdesk.

As part of the scheme and to help customers plan their journey by bike a Cambridge cycle map will be on display at the store entrance with free copies available for customers to take away.
