Bike to Work Day (20 June) is an annual district wide event encouraging all employees to leave their cars at home and take to the road on two wheels for a day.
To encourage more workers to celebrate the day in cycling style, a free breakfast was up for grabs in Dalton Square between 8.15 and 9.45 am , courtesy of the council's Cycling Demonstration Town Team.
Over 30 cyclists arrived from every corner of the square and looking forward to the luxury of a free breakfast of coffee, tea, pastries and fruit under the gaze of Queen Victoria, before continuing on the last leg of their journey to work.
Cyclists taking advantage of the free breakfast before clocking in included employees from Fat Media, Lancaster University, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster City Council and Connexions in Morecambe.
Members of the Cycling Demonstration Town Team were also on hand to offer advice and information on cycling.
It was a special occasion for one Lancaster City Council employee who marked Bike to Work Day by cycling to his base at Palatine Hall, Lancaster for the first time ever.
Commenting on his experience, Paul Rogers, Principal Regeneration Officer, said:
?I can't believe how easy it was and you don't need to wear cycling gear, you can cycle in smart or casual wear. I'll definitely be using my bike more for my daily commute!?
