Catholic Priest, Anthony Such, will be giving Greenpeace fair goers the opportunity to repent of their eco-sins in a confessional made out of recycled paper.

The Greenpeace fair in Waveney, Suffolk, is the environmental charity's annual fund-raising event.  At the event, Father Such will be donning a recycled pair of green curtains as his vestment, whilst sitting in his recycled confessional.

Father Such admitted that some may think that this is trivialising the confession, but responded that "sin comes in when the action is an unnecessary indulgence that affects other people adversely.  The Roman Catholic church is currently looking into this issue."

He told the Eastern Daily Press: "The Catholic church is very concerned about green issues. It comes from scripture that we should care for our planet. We are becoming more and more aware of the damage we are doing."

As for penance, the priest is not looking for Hail Marys, but "we will look at your lifestyle together, to see what you can do to repair it.  It will be a matter of personal conscience."  He reiterated that the confession will be private and that he can only offer absolution to Roman Catholics.  If others wish to confess their sin, they still can, but he cannot offer absolution.

Graham Elliott, the fair organiser, said:
"We are not expecting people to change their lifestyles dramatically, having stepped into the booth. We think they will treat it in a light-hearted way. If people are concerned about certain aspects of their lifestyles there will be information on hand, whether it is reducing energy use, renewable energy, reducing your travel impact, or ways to grow your own produce."

Just last week, the Norwich Union released the results of a survey that suggests that Brits are willing to tell lies to cover their eco-sins, such is the societal pressure to live up to eco-expectations.
