Confusion is set to follow this week's snow falls as councils up and down the country cancel or rejig waste collection this week.

More than 20 local authorities have posted notices on their websites about alternative arrangements, but strategies differ greatly. Bracknell advised its residents to "leave all refuse, recycling and green waste out if it has not been emptied as the teams will try their best to get around to them all this week."

Others like Woking have simply written off the week, telling its residents to "put black wheeled bin or sacks out for collection next week on their designated collection day, regardless of their normal collection cycle."

Wycombe District Council have told their residents that they will "collect in areas where it is safe for vehicles and collectors to operate."

Some councils like Leicester City Council have just posponed the worst day by a week.

Some councils are simply asking residents who don't have much waste not to put their bins out to help speed up collections.

The general advice is for residents to check their local authority's website or listen to the local news to find out the latest updates.
