A series of special roadshows will give people in Cumbria a chance to bang the drum for recycling during July and August to encourage housheolders to do the right thing and reduce, re-use and recycle more of their rubbish.

The recycling roadshows around the county will feature the well known Liverpool-based band, Urban Strawberry Lunch, who make their music on instruments constructed out of scrap and waste. Band members will demonstrate their instruments and offer members of the public the chance to have a bash themselves.

Recycling rangers, working for Resources Cumbria, the waste partnership between the county and district councils, will also be on hand to offer some fantastic recycling fun and free re-usable cotton shopping bags as well as a wealth of information and details on recycling in the local area.

Recycling ranger Katharine Smith said:

?Urban Strawberry Lunch are great fun. They're very good at getting people involved and encourage everyone to have a go - it's very popular.?

The roadshows will be held between 10am and 4pm on:

Saturday, 28th July , at Great Corby Village Fete Monsay, 23rd July, at Carlisle city centre

Sunday, 5th August, at Silloth Sunday Market Wednesday, 15th August, at Gosforth show Saturday, 18th August, at Ulverston town centre (the roadshow will take place but the band will not be attending) Tuesday, 21st August, at Penrith town centre Saturday, 25th August, at Cleator Moor fun day.
