A new interactive website is being launched to encourage kids to recycle.

Bradford Council will launch the Waste Invaders website on Friday, and children at Girlington Primary School will be some of the first to enjoy it.

The bright, colourful website stars a host of cartoon characters including Commander Blip, Lieutenant Star, Sortalot and Dropalot and is based around space and saving the planet.

Children can enjoy helping the wasteful Dropalot start recycling in a fun Pac-man style computer game while picking up plenty of facts about the environment on the way. The website also features games, competitions and quizzes as well as a chance to ask Bradford Council questions about how it promotes recycling and manages waste.

The website can be found at www.waste-invaders.co.uk and is divided into separate sections suitable for key stage one children (five to seven year olds) and key stage two (seven to eleven year olds) as well as a helpful site for teachers.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, the Executive Member for Environment and Culture, said:

?You are never too young to learn more about the environment, and how we can save our planet through recycling more and cutting down the waste we produce.

?This website is a fun and colourful way of encouraging kids to take responsibility and to learn more about the world they live in.?
