Bradford Council is running a series of events encouraging people to transform their rubbish into something useful rather than throwing it away.

As part of 'Recycle Now' Week, which runs from Saturday 2nd June, Bradford are hosting a number of events with the theme 'transform something today'.

Bradford suggests ?yoghurt pots can be used to plant seedlings or freeze baby food and milk bottle tops can be strung together to scare birds away from the garden. Children can enjoy making models out of cardboard boxes and used foil.?

An event will be held in Shipley town centre where residents will have a chance to see a model wearing a costume made entirely out of recycled materials, designed and made by local artist Christine Hughes.

Residents will also be challenged to make something new out of stamps, old CDs and other rubbish.

The week will also see a recycled dragon appearing at Bradford Tourist Information Centre, roadshows, model making activities for children and a top tip competition with gardening voucher prizes.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, the Executive Member for Environment and Culture, said:

?We are aiming to increase recycling in the district, and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

?By finding new uses for old rubbish, residents will not only contribute to saving the environment but also save money as well. Hopefully they will also have a bit of fun on the way.?
