On a suitably windy day the launch of the wind turbine followed two days of renewable energy activity undertaken by Ashlawn pupils, with the launch of their very own wind turbine being the grand finale.
The Rugby school is the first in Warwickshire to install a wind turbine of its size and has been supported through the process by Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council, with funding from RBC, Eon and Cemex.
The turbine will provide a proportion of the school's electricity requirements from a renewable energy source while at the same time enabling the pupils to learn more about energy, climate change and related environmental issues.
Mandy Jesson, Science College Coordinator at Ashlawn school said:
?We are delighted to have the wind turbine installed and are very proud to be the first school in Warwickshire to have one. It will be an excellent educational tool and we hope to work with other local schools to help raise awareness of climate change and energy issues.?
