Make your home more energy efficient - and save money at the same time.

Trafford Council has teamed up with British Gas to offer its residents cavity wall insulation for only ?250.

Anybody who takes up the scheme will receive a ?50 rebate off their council tax bill. For people on qualifying benefits, the work will be carried out free of charge.

Having the measures installed can significantly cut the amount of energy needed to heat your home, which could mean a reduction in your heating costs too.

Councillor John Tolhurst, executive member for finance and e-government, said:

?This scheme is an excellent way for people to make their homes more energy efficient and to raise awareness of how being green can save you money.?

You don't have to be a British Gas customer already to take part in the scheme. If you would like to get on board, call 0845 971 7731 and quote the media code TRAF.

Local installer Hillserve will come to your home to carry out a free energy efficiency audit, then will organise a time to come to install the cavity wall insulation.

Wayne Smith, British Gas energy efficiency development manager, said:

?Our council tax rebate schemes have broken through the inertia that holds back the take-up of energy saving measures. We have shown that financially incentivising customers to 'go green' works and it's great we're working with Trafford Council to help households lower their bills and reduce their carbon footprint.?
