We all know that our electrical gadgets have a knack of gobbling up electricity when we're not looking, so it's good to know that some manufacturers are taking their responsibility seriously.

DAB radio manufacturer Pure has announced that its 'Energy Saving Recommended' radios use less energy than an energy saving light bulb.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, "running four Pure Energy Saving Recommended radios will use less electricity than one low energy light bulb on for the same time."

Colin Crawford, Pure's director of marketing says:
"Consumers are increasingly looking for more eco-friendly products, and telling us that power consumption matters to them. The message that you can run four of our radios for less energy than a single low-energy light bulb is a very direct way to highlight just how successful we've been in reducing digital radio power consumption over the past seven years."

Adrian Arnold, Energy Saving Trust's so-called 'Energy Doctor' said:
"An Energy Saving Trust accredited digital radio is the most efficient way to listen to DAB digital radio and we would encourage anyone enjoying the fantastic content that digital radio provides to move across to one of these radios which uses less electricity and is better for the environment.  Pure's 'Less than a Light Bulb' campaign is a great way to put this message across quickly and clearly."

Pure has received ten Energy Saving Recommended accreditations for its radios including Move; EVOKE-1S; Siesta; Chronos II; TEMPUS-1S; ONE Mini; ONE Classic; ONE Elite; EVOKE Mio and EVOKE-2S.

Products endorsed by the scheme have to satisfy an Independent Endorsement Panel of experts, and have to meet strict energy efficiency criteria which means they are not only better for the environment but are also cheaper to run.  All Pure radios endorsed by Energy Saving Trust will feature the distinctive blue Energy Saving Recommended logo on their packaging and promotional material.

All ten radios endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust are part of EcoPlus™, Pure's green initiative as is Pure's entire product range. EcoPlus™ stands for reduced power consumption, packaging materials from recycled and sustainable sources and components selected to minimise their environmental impact.
