Cambridge City Council has appointed its first Climate Change Officer, Simon Chubb, to lead its work in addressing the causes and consequences of climate change across the city.

As a signatory to the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change Cambridge City Council is committed to developing plans with partners and local communities to progressively address the causes and impacts of climate change.

The Council is currently building a Cambridge Climate Change Partnership with key city organisations to be launched publicly later this year.

All organisations in Cambridge, including community groups, businesses and schools, will be invited to join the partnership in taking co-ordinated action to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and manage the increasing risks associated with heat waves, storms and flooding, for example.

Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Growth Sian Reid said:

?I am delighted that we have been able to appoint our first Climate Change Officer who will provide added impetus to our action to address climate change.

?Cambridge City Council is continuing to change the way it operates and delivers services to reduce our contribution to climate change and manage the risks it poses to us as an organisation as well as across the city.

?We will need to make even bigger changes in the years ahead and I look forward to Simon's help in meeting these challenges?.
