Today, Greenpeace issued a challenge to supermarkets to stop stocking incandescent light-bulbs in favour of energy efficient bulbs.

Continuing its programme "How to Save the Climate" which was launched last month, today's challenge is directed at the supermarkets. Rather than wait for the government to issue a law banning ordinary light-bulbs, Greenpeace wants us to tell the supermarkets that we don't want them anymore.

The Greenpeace website contains links to the major supermarkets so that you can send them your thoughts directly, easily.

The energy-efficient light-bulbs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps or CFLs) are up to 5 times more efficient than incandescent bulbs; last 12 times longer than incandescent bulbs; and are now very affordable.

The incandescent bulb wastes a staggering 95% of its energy as heat and accounts for 80% of bulbs used in the UK.
