Back in March, Microsoft quietly introduced a programme called "i'm". In this programme, Microsoft share a portion of their advertising revenue on Live Messenger 8.1 whenever you chat. To date, Microsoft have raised over $92,000 (£46,000), and say that they are not putting any cap on what they will give through this programme.
So far there are nine charities who are in line to benefit, but you can choose which charity gets your chat money. It takes less than a minute to set up, and after that you do not need to do anything more.
To set up, simply find Options on the Tools menu. And type one of the following codes next to your name (including the star):
- American Red Cross *red+u
- Boys & Girls Clubs of America *bgca
- Humane Society of the United States *hsus
- National AIDS Fund *naf
- National MS Society *mssoc
- ninemillion.org *9mil
- Sierra Club *sierra
- StopGlobalWarming.org *help
- Susan G. Komen for the Cure *komen
- U.S. Fund for UNICEF *unicef
