Businesses in Sussex are being helped to cut their energy bills and carbon footprint with free energy audits and grants.

East Sussex County Council and West Sussex County Council have secured over £65,000 from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) to set up a free service for businesses in Sussex to save money and help the environment.

With energy bills rising dramatically in the last few years, and the Climate Change Levy increasing every year, businesses have a strong incentive to improve their energy efficiency. The new service is targeted at local businesses that spend between £20,000 and £50,000 on their energy bills per year, including transport fuel costs. The free service includes a site audit, a report detailing key practical actions to save money, grants to help pay for energy efficiency measures, and follow up support to help implement improvements.

East Sussex Council Leader, Peter Jones, said:
"We are delighted to have won SEEDA funding, particularly for a project that supports one of our key aims which is to raise the economic performance of East Sussex. It also builds on our good work to reduce our own carbon footprint, and demonstrates our commitment to help others to play their part too. This project will enable the County Council to continue to help local businesses to both reduce their bills and have less impact on the environment."
