An Inconvenient TruthPrepare yourselves for an unsettling, yet exhilarating 90 minutes. If you are concerned about climate change, want to learn more or are even sceptical about the whole global warming issue then this film is a 'must see'. “An Inconvenient Truth” is a multimedia presentation led by Al Gore. He delivers a clear, compelling argument for how our actions are adversely affecting the planet. Gore is an outspoken figure in the environmental world, being one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change in the late 1970s. Throughout this candid, powerful and informative documentary, Gore presents disturbing information including photographs of receding ice fields and speculative maps of submerged coastlines. If we continue to pollute our planet this prediction will become our reality. Gore points out that if we continue to cause global warming we have around 10 short years before the planet reaches 'tipping point' and begins a slide towards the destruction of our civilisation. After this point, it will be too late to reverse our actions. “There is no controversy about these facts,” he says. “Out of 925 recent articles in peer-review scientific journals about global warming, there was no disagreement. Zero.” It's not all prophecies of doom however. Gore is passionate and optimistic about our future. He ends the film with 10 steps we can all take to help protect ourselves and the planet. Gore says, “We have everything we need to get started, with the possible exception of the will to act.” You can show that YOU have the will to act by following these tips on saving electricity, fuel and water. As Gore says the need to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions is a “moral imperative.” You owe it to yourself to see this film and if you don't walk around the house turning the lights off after watching it, then I'll eat my (fairtrade ,organic, locally sourced) hat.
